Palazzo Pfanner

The garden of Palazzo Pfanner
Il Giardino

The garden of Palazzo Pfanner, attributed to the genius of Filippo Juvarra (1678-1736), represents a classic example of an Italian-style garden in which geometric rigour corresponds to the perfect harmony of the proportions.

From the two different perspectives of the town walls and the grand staircase a large grassy lawn can be seen with two paths at right angles and an octagonal pond at the point where the paths intersect. There are 14 eighteenth-century statues in marble from Carrara, depicting the gods from Mount Olympus, arranged at intervals with beautiful earthenware vases of lemons along the paths. At the bottom of the garden there stands the eighteenth-century lemon-house.
