Exhibition of Dr. Pietro Pfanner medical and surgical instruments (1864-1935) This collection of medical and surgical instruments that belonged to Pietro Pfanner (1864-1935) offers the visitor a fascinating insight into the medical profession as it was between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. There is a vast array of scalpels, pincers and scissors, the first apparatuses used for measuring blood pressure, forceps, utensils for amputating, machines for producing alternating current (considered for a long time to be useful in treatment for paralysis and even for tumours), various types of syringes and some ingenious devices for the treatment of tuberculosis. Furthermore, there are some anatomical exhibits extracted from patients who lived in the first half of the nineteenth century, not to mention a precious collection of medical notes and texts published between the sixteenth and the eighteenth centuries. |
